From beginners classes to search hero...

Long standing students Emma & Drew Hall have recently qualified their dog Jaspa as a Search and Rescue dog. We asked Emma & Drew to write a bit about their journey towards this great achievement.

From beginner's classes to search hero.........

Me and my Husband (Drew) brought our very first dog Jaspa in February 2008, since then our all our life's have changed so much. Jaspa is a 14 month old English springer spaniel, when we brought him we had never even thought about classes. However we enrolled with Adolescent dogs and started at the Beginners class and worked our way through the other classes (there are very few classes we have NOT done!) The training was thoroughly enjoyed by all and when we graduated from Jaspa's last class a gap was left....

Jenny then introduced us to Berkshire Search and Rescue Dogs that are based in Bracknell. They are a charity that is run by volunteers and their dogs. Who train to locate missing people and reunite them with their families? The dogs initially learn to find people by what is known as air scenting (Sounds Scary!), but it basically means that the dogs pick up scent in the air and follow it to the missing person.

Drew and Jaspa joined the group in September 2008 and they both found the training rewarding and enjoyable! Needless to say that Jaspa picked it up very quickly and passed his Assessment in February this year. He became the only qualified spaniel in the UK and one of the youngest. This now means that if anyone goes missing in the area then Drew and Jaspa may be called out to find them.

Last but certainly not least.... A massive �thanks � to Jenny and Anna as without their help and guidance with Jaspa�s obedience and training he would not be the wonderful dog he is today and we may have never been involved in such a worthwhile cause.

Head dog trainer Jenny Trigg, has been assessed and approved as a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (MAPDT 1032) (APDT) The Association of Pet Dog Trainers offers pet dog owners a guarantee of quality when looking for a puppy and dog training class in their area.

Jenny Trigg has also been approved as a Kennel Club Listed Status club, meaning we can run the Good Citizen Dog Scheme.
